In the wake of the cancellation of the Commonwealth Games, a number of new Victorian Government funding streams have become available to Victorian alpine resorts and operators in the alpine sector.

As part of the $2 billion package targeted at regional Victoria announced by the Victorian Premier Mr Daniel Andrews on 18 July 2023, the Victorian Government has created the following funding programs:

  • $1 billion Regional Housing fund
  • $170 million Regional Tourism Package
  • $60 million Regional Community Sport Development Fund
  • $40 million All Abilities Sport Fund

Full details about the funding programs will be available following Victorian Government consultation with sporting codes, councils, tourism bodies and the community.

$170 Regional Tourism Package

The $170 million Regional Tourism Package announced by the Victorian Government is designed to improved the visitor experience and increase visitor spending across Victoria.

As part of this package, there is $70 million allocated to regional events and $60 million for regional tourism infrastructure. In addition, the government is investing $20 million for regional tourism marketing to ensure regional offerings are marketed across the state, the country and the world.

ARV advocating for alpine sector stakeholders

ARV’s CEO Amber Gardner has already commenced discussions with Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan to ensure that alpine resorts are included in the eligibility criteria for these new funding streams.

This advocacy builds on ARV’s recent success ensuring that alpine resorts are recognised as eligible for funding under the Federal Government’s Growing Regions Program.

“It’s critical that we continue ensuring that the alpine sector’s significant contribution to Victoria’s (and Australia’s) tourism economy is supported by access to federal and state funding opportunities,” said Amber Gardner, ARV CEO.

ARV will keep the alpine sector updated as the details of the funding programs become available.
