The Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997 is the principal governing legislation for ARV. Recent amendments to the Act were passed by the Victorian Parliament in March 2022 and came into effect on 1 October 2022. The changes abolished the 4 Alpine Resort Management Boards and the Alpine Resorts Coordinating Council.

The amendments also established a single entity, Alpine Resorts Victoria, to manage, develop, and promote Victoria’s 6 alpine resorts:

  • Falls Creek
  • Lake Mountain
  • Mt Baw Baw
  • Mt Buller
  • Mt Hotham
  • Mt Stirling.

ARV is a statutory authority that reports to the Minister for Environment and is subject to the Minister’s general direction and control. It is also a body corporate and is considered a public body for the purposes of the Financial Management Act 1994.
