At Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV), we make as much information as possible publicly available to minimise the need for formal requests under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act).
Before making a formal FOI request, please review this document list and search the ARV website, as the information you are seeking may already be published.
If you are unable to find the information after reviewing these sources, please contact ARV’s Freedom of Information Officer for assistance before submitting a formal request under the FOI Act.
Statement 1: organisation and functions
ARV are responsible for the management, development, promotion, and use of Victoria’s 6 alpine resorts: Falls Creek, Lake Mountain, Mt Baw Baw, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham, and Mt Stirling. This is consistent with the object of the Alpine Resorts (Management) Act 1997.
Delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality essential services, including water, waste, sewerage, energy, and roads, continues to be our core priority. It enables the largely commercial sector to enhance these special destinations with world-class tourism and recreation services.
ARV is a statutory authority that reports to the Minister for Environment and is subject to the general direction and control of the Minister. ARV is a body corporate and is considered a public body for the purposes of the Financial Management Act 1994 (FMA).
The establishment of ARV brings the management of the resorts together into a single organisation and supersedes the Alpine Resort Management Boards. It aims to build the economic resilience of the sector, streamline operations across the resorts where possible, and coordinate their response to challenges.

Making a request
Requests must be made in writing to ARV and include the application fee.
Your request should be as specific as possible to allow us to locate the documents you need. Specify the type of document, such as a planning permit, report, or letters, and avoid vague terms like 'all documents' or 'any records.'
- A request can be lodged via email at foi@alpineresorts.vic.gov.au
- Telephone enquiries can be made on 0499 111 403
The Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner provides this handy resource for individuals seeking to find and request information.
Fees and charges
A fixed application fee of $33.60 is payable when making your FOI request. This fee is non-refundable and enables us to assess your application and determine how to proceed.
You may request a fee waiver if you can provide evidence of financial hardship, such as a low income health care card issued by Services Australia and we will assess your eligibility of a fee waiver.
ARV may also charge fees for searching for and providing access to documents. These charges include:
- search time: $25.20 per hour (or part of an hour)
- photocopying: $0.20 per A4 black and white page
- supervision time (if inspecting documents in person): $25.20 per hour (or part of an hour).
If estimated charges exceed $70, we will ask whether you wish to continue and may request a deposit.
