Remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) permits

The use of remotely piloted aircraft (RPAs), commonly referred to as drones, requires a permit to operate within any alpine resort in Victoria.

RPAs are often used for:

  • filming
  • photography
  • research
  • asset surveying
  • spatial capture.

Safe RPA operation is paramount to protecting the safety of people, resort infrastructure, visitor amenity, and the sensitive alpine environment.

What type of RPA use is not permitted?

Recreational RPA use is not permitted within alpine resorts, regardless of drone weight classification. Including flying for:

  • fun
  • sport
  • recreation
  • model planes.

Emergency services personnel RPA use

Emergency services personnel, including Victoria Police, the Country Fire Authority (CFA) and Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic), may operate remotely piloted aircraft (RPAs) within an alpine resort while performing emergency management operations.

An ARV drone permit is not required in these circumstances.
