It has been a productive period for emergency management across Alpine Resorts Victoria, with strong progress driven through collaboration, planning and practical implementation.
During May, each resort held its Emergency Management Operational Planning Committee (EMOPC) meeting, bringing together resort teams, emergency services and key partner agencies. Held twice a year, these meetings bring together resort teams, emergency services and partner agencies to discuss local risks, preparedness activities and emergency management priorities. They form a critical part of ARV's emergency management framework, ensuring collaboration and preparedness across our resort communities. The ARV Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC) also met in June to discuss ARV-wide emergency management priorities and initiatives.
A key project over the past 12 months has been the development of the Resort Emergency Management Operational Guidelines (EMOGs). These practical guidelines support emergency planning, preparedness, response and recovery across the resorts. They include action plans for a range of scenarios, including bushfire, isolation, severe weather events and critical service disruption. Most resorts have now endorsed their EMOG through their EMOPC, with the remaining documents expected to be finalised shortly. Once implemented, these guidelines will provide resort teams with a clear and consistent approach to managing emergencies.
Attention is now turning to exercising and testing these arrangements. In June, the Mt Buller/ Mt Stirling team undertook a desktop exercise focused on a prolonged resort isolation scenario, providing an opportunity to test decision-making, coordination and communication across resort stakeholders. Further exercises are being planned across the resorts, including activities to strengthen bushfire preparedness ahead of the green season.
ARV continues to actively engage with regional emergency management partners and participate in industry forums to stay ahead of emerging risks, policy changes and best practice. This ongoing collaboration helps build organisational resilience and ensures our resorts are well positioned to support visitors, communities and stakeholders when emergencies occur.
