ARV has received grant funding from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) to transition the resorts to a four bin waste management system. Under the Kerbside Reform Support Fund, ARV received funding to improve waste management infrastructure and systems at each resort. This new infrastructure has already been installed in some resorts (see pic below of Mt Buller glass recycling below) and as it rolls out across all resorts, it will start to become more visible to stakeholders and visitors. ARV encourages all resort stakeholders to take an active role in supporting this new Waste Management Strategy as it helps to support the sustainability of the resorts.

To further support this work, ARV’s environment officers are also leveraging Sustainability Victoria’s Circular Economy Household Education Fund to educate ARV staff, resort visitors and communities to best use resort recycling services to better manage and reduce waste. ARV also hopes to inspire and create advocates for resort recycling and waste reduction, knowing that by creating less emissions from waste protects the resort's unique environment.

How is each resort tracking?

  • Falls Creek: Organics recycling already in place, now trialing glass recycling.
  • Mt Baw Baw: Introducing organics recycling.
  • Mt Buller: Mt Stirling - Organics recycling already in place, now trialing glass recycling.
  • Mt Hotham: Separation of waste and recycling organics and glass underway.
  • Lake Mountain: Is aiming to introduce organics recycling and minimise waste to landfill.

Well done to everyone involved and to find out more about these programs you can visit Sustainability Victoria.
