Victoria’s alpine resorts have provided the stunning backdrops for two major alpine sporting events; The Kangaroo Hoppet cross-country ski race in Falls Creek, and the Victorian Interschools Championships at Mt Buller.
Each event attracted huge numbers of participants and spectators who enjoyed a week of sunshine and great snow in both destinations.

Schools bring their best to Mt Buller
The Victorian Interschools Championship saw 5,800 entries from across 250 schools which is one of the largest school participation snow sports events in the world. The event requires extensive preparations from Buller Ski Lifts, dozens of volunteers and hundreds of families and athletes to play supporting roles for the athletes to perform at their best during a busy week of competition.
Mt Buller will also host the National Championships in early September, where 1,000 of Australia’s best school-aged skiers and snowboarders will enjoy 6 action-packed days of racing and competition.
Alan Arthur, General Manager of Mt Buller, and Chair of the Mt Buller Interschools Association said, “Mt Buller is proud that some of Australia’s most successful winter athletes have honed their skills through the Interschools Snowsport Championships, including Jakara Anthony, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin and Anton Grimus.”
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos said, “We’re proud to back this event – the premier competition for junior elite snowsports which has kickstarted the careers of many Australian winter athletes. Events like this support talent and showcase Victoria’s diverse sporting events calendar and world-class facilities while supporting local jobs and businesses.”
