As Victoria’s alpine resorts move into the higher-risk weather season, Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV) is supporting a coordinated program of preparedness across the resorts. This work builds on ARV’s emergency management framework, which focuses on mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery across the six alpine resorts.
Summer preparation and planning activities are already underway, with forecasts indicating the potential for an early start to the bushfire season and elevated risk in some areas of the state due to below-average rainfall and above-average temperatures expected through spring. ARV is participating in regional briefings, preparing bushfire desktop exercises, undertaking risk reduction works across resort areas, and updating key documentation and procedures. Emergency services are also progressing readiness activities, with regional briefings and training being delivered this month. These activities are helping to strengthen operational readiness and support consistent, practical decision-making during periods of elevated risk.
Ski lift rescue exercises have recently taken place across the resorts, with ski lift operations teams working alongside local CFA brigades to practise emergency procedures, test local arrangements and reinforce coordination between resort staff and response partners. These exercises are an important part of maintaining capability and confidence in responding to rare but high-consequence events, with further practical exercises planned for June 2027.
ARV is also continuing to build improvements into its emergency management procedures and response arrangements, informed by recent incidents across the resorts. Learnings are being reviewed and implemented where appropriate, helping ARV and resort teams refine procedures, strengthen communication pathways and improve readiness for future incidents.
Through this work, the ARV Governance and Risk team continues to collaborate with resort teams and emergency management stakeholders to support safe, resilient and well-prepared alpine communities throughout the season ahead.
