As Victoria's alpine resorts conclude their winter operations earlier than anticipated, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge what has been a particularly challenging snow season for everyone connected to our mountains.
With the 2026 season ending earlier than anticipated, resorts progressively concluded winter operations from late August through to early September. While disappointing for visitors, businesses, employees and local communities alike, the season also demonstrated the resilience, adaptability and commitment that define the alpine sector.
From the beginning of winter, resorts faced difficult conditions, with warmer weather patterns and higher-than-usual rainfall impacting snow cover and operations across the season. Despite these challenges, resort teams worked tirelessly to maximise opportunities for visitors, making significant efforts through snowmaking, grooming and snow management to keep terrain safely accessible for as long as possible.
We recognise the significant impact that a shortened season has had on our resort communities and those in the surrounding towns. Local businesses, accommodation providers, tourism operators, employees and contractors have all navigated a season marked by ongoing uncertainty and operational challenges. For many mountain communities, the snow season is the key economic window in the year, supporting local jobs, businesses and community organisations. A shorter season means fewer opportunities for many who rely on winter visitation, and we acknowledge the challenges this has created for individuals, families and businesses across Victoria's alpine region.
We also acknowledge the remarkable resilience demonstrated by our communities throughout the season. Businesses adapted to changing conditions, staff continued to provide exceptional experiences for visitors, and community partners worked collaboratively to support resort operations. We also thank our visitors, many of whom continued to visit their favourite resorts despite the unpredictable conditions.

While winter operations have concluded, our alpine resorts remain vibrant destinations year-round. As we transition into the green season, we encourage visitors to continue enjoying the wide range of experiences available across Victoria's mountains, including walking, hiking, mountain biking, road cycling and more, while exploring the unique alpine environment. The alpine communities continue to welcome visitors, and ongoing visitation outside the snow season remains an important contributor to local businesses and regional economies.
