Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV) is continuing to strengthen the way it captures, reports and shares visitor data across Victoria’s alpine resorts, with the implementation of a single booking and licence plate recognition platform (see Resorts unite on a new digital platform), supporting a more accurate, transparent and consistent approach to winter visitation reporting.

The new platform is providing ARV with improved access to visitation information from more reliable data sources, enabling weekly winter visitation statistics to be prepared using a clearer and more consistent methodology. The updated approach brings together three key data inputs:

  • permit sales data for day and multiday visitors;
  • camera reads to identify visits by season permit holders; and
  • vehicle occupancy numbers noted at the time of purchase

This represents an important step forward from the previous reporting approach, which relied on historic multipliers and periodic surveys at resort entry points. By drawing on unified platforms for data sources, ARV can provide stakeholders and industry with a more consistent view of visitation across the alpine resorts.

Under the updated methodology, all resorts are now counted  with more accuracy. Occupant figures are reported per vehicle rather than being derived from estimated averages, helping create a stronger basis for like-for-like reporting across Victoria’s alpine resorts.

Winter reporting will continue to include week-to-week visitation and year-to-date figures, alongside a 10-year average to provide longer-term context. The 10-year average will remain an important benchmark and should be read alongside the updated methodology, particularly when comparing current results with figures produced under the previous approach.

The change reflects the positive progress underway across ARV as the organisation invests in updated systems, shared data and more consistent reporting. The implementation of the Digital Visitor Service Platform is helping support evidence-based decision making, clearer communication with stakeholders and a more informed future for Victoria’s alpine resorts.
